About the role

You will be joining a dedicated team focused on caring for animals to achieve positive outcomes through treatment, foster and adoption. This is a busy location with a large number of animals needing AWLQ’s help, but there is no weekend work for work/life balance!
 
This role provides variety with both medicine and surgical cases, from standard to complex. As a shelter vet you will be able to focus on the patient with no human clients. We have a separate dog and cat clinic, with dental and digital x-ray, ultrasound, inhouse and external pathology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical procedures
  • Radiology, dental radiology, and ultrasound procedures
  • Hospital rounds
  • Health exams
  • Medical investigation including diagnostics
  • Foster animal consults and rechecks
  • Updating patient records
  • Knowledge, understanding and empathy for community animal health and welfare issues

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

  • 2+ years’  veterinary experience
  • Confident in standard procedures including cat and dog castrates and spays, dental procedures
  • A strong interest in Shelter medicine

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Degree Qualification in Veterinary Science and Registration as a Veterinarian
  • Enthusiasm to develop skills
  • Ability to monitor and manage medical cases
  • Commitment to embracing a positive team environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with other departments
  • Kindness and compassion for the animals in our care
