The Opportunity
With a dynamic CEO driving the organisation forward, we are seeking an exceptional and strategically minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive team. This newly created position reports directly to the CEO and oversees the finance team. This is a pivotal role for a visionary financial leader who is not only a master of numbers but also a champion of our mission and values.
As CFO, you will be instrumental in shaping our financial future, ensuring sustainable growth, and safeguarding our organisation through robust financial management and enterprise-wide risk mitigation. You'll be a trusted strategic partner to the CEO, contributing financial and commercial insights to critical decisions, and leading a high-performing finance team to achieve our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Your leadership will encompass:
- Financial Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute the organisation's financial strategy, leading comprehensive financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting. You'll provide astute financial advice, assessing risks and opportunities for all strategic initiatives, investments, and operational decisions.
- Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): Lead the development and oversee continuous improvement of our entire ERM framework. You'll proactively identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate a broad spectrum of financial risks.
- Compliance: You'll ensure unwavering adherence to Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), taxation laws (e.g., GST, FBT), corporate governance principles, and relevant industry-specific regulations. You will also manage relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Financial Management & Operations: Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and asset registers. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting. You'll expertly manage cash flow, working capital, and investment portfolios, while mitigating liquidity risk.
- Business Acumen & Commercial Insight: Provide sharp commercial insights to drive operational efficiency, cost reduction, and investment revenue enhancement. You'll integrate financial and risk perspectives into all major business decisions and actively monitor economic and industry trends.
- Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team. You'll champion and foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that embodies our values of Integrity, Compassion, Innovation, and Optimism. You'll build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including financial institutions and legal advisors.
About You (Skills & Attributes)
You are a strategic thinker with exceptional financial acumen and a track record in enterprise risk management. You possess:
- Outstanding Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams, driving accountability and fostering collaboration.
- Strong Risk Management Expertise: Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor diverse financial risks.
- Exceptional Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to convey/prepare complex financial and risk information clearly to diverse audiences, including the CEO, Management Committee and auditors.
- Analytical & Commercial Savvy: Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Adaptability & Resilience: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, navigating change and maintaining performance under pressure.

Minimum Requirements
- Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in senior financial leadership roles, with a proven track record of achievement in strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting in a complex environment.
- Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), and tax laws (ATO).
- Expertise with MS Suite and financial software systems with ability to learn new systems.
- Demonstrated experience streamlining processes, including updating and introducing software systems.
- Police Check and Vulnerable Persons Check will be required upon offer.
Desirable
- Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector.
- Expertise with NetSuite and MYOB.
- SalesForce integration.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
