The Opportunity

Join AWLQ at one of the most exciting times in our history. With a new leadership team and a bold vision to modernise how we communicate, we’re looking for a Brand and Communications Manager who wants to make a real difference for animals and the people who love them.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Digital, you’ll help evolve our brand, manage key internal clients, talent and subject matter experts to collaborate with external media partners to deliver an agency-like experience. You’ll work alongside passionate people (and a few furry stars) to tell powerful stories, inspire action, and lead new and creative initiatives that amplify our impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Agency: Develop and manage a service request system for internal stakeholders to brief production, content needs, and design projects, ensuring clarity, prioritisation, and timely delivery.
  • Marketing Creative: Lead the development of creative messaging, accurate and timely communication, multi-channel brand and communications strategy that aligns with our mission and strategic plan.
  • Content and Storytelling: Inspire and develop a compelling content strategy, telling the stories of our animals, employees, volunteers, business areas and community to inspire action and support.
  • Brand Champion: Ensure consistency in all internal and external communications to strengthen our reputation and enhance brand recognition.
  • Public Relations: Support the manager as a spokesperson, assisting with media relationships and critical messaging releases and help orchestrate crisis management actions.
  • Digital Marketing: Support the manager as required to oversee social media, website management, and email campaigns, to increase engagement, reach, and conversions.
  • Manage talent: Identify, engage, and manage subject matter experts and talent (e.g., staff, volunteers, ambassadors, external contributors) to ensure authentic, informed, and impactful storytelling across all channels.

Essential Qualifications and Experience 

  • Proven success in a brand, marketing or communications role.
  • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Communication skills: excellent verbal, written and interpersonal.
  • Meticulous accuracy.
  • Decision-making ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously and make sound decisions.
  • Technological: competent with social media, project management tools like Asana or Monday.com, Office, media monitoring tools and generative AI.
  • Planning: effective workload prioritisation, productivity, on-time attendance and meeting timely response periods.
  • Public speaking: confident speaking about the organisation’s programs and requesting financial/in-kind support.
  • Presentation: takes pride in own appearance and organisation’s property.
  • Flexibility to work outside of business hours to attend events.
