The Opportunity
The Philanthropy and Gifts in Wills Manager is a pivotal role within our Fundraising and Philanthropy team, responsible for driving the growth of the organisation’s major giving and legacy programs. This is a compelling opportunity to join the organisation at a time of significant transformation and ambition.

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy, you will lead the strategy and delivery of major gifts, Gifts in Wills, and targeted philanthropic campaigns, generating sustainable income to advance the organisation’s mission.

We are seeking a strategic, purpose-driven fundraising professional with a strong track record in building high-value donor relationships and delivering long-term revenue growth. This role blends innovative fundraising, data-driven insight, and personalised stewardship to inspire donors, demonstrate impact, and ensure philanthropy plays an increasingly critical role in the organisation’s future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Philanthropy
    Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors. Build strong, personalised relationships with high-value donors and prospects through tailored engagement plans. Work closely with senior leaders to align philanthropic opportunities with organisational priorities and funding needs. Prepare proposals, impact reports, and stewardship communications to support major gift conversations. 
  • Gifts In Wills/Legacy Giving
    Lead the growth of the Gifts in Wills program through targeted marketing, stewardship, and relationship management. Identify and engage potential bequests through data insights, supporter behaviour, and donor journeys. Provide clear, sensitive guidance to donors and professional advisors regarding legacy giving options. Maintain accurate and confidential records of bequest intentions, pledges, and related communications. Deliver campaigns and engagement initiatives that build long-term awareness and commitment to legacy giving. 
  • Donor Stewardship & Experience
    Design and deliver exceptional stewardship experiences for philanthropic and legacy donors. Coordinate personalised communications, including acknowledgements, impact updates, milestones, and events. Collaborate with Marketing and Programs to develop compelling storytelling demonstrating donor impact. Ensure donors feel valued, informed, and connected to the organisation’s mission. 
  • Data, Insights, & Reporting
    Maintain high-quality CRM data for all philanthropic and legacy supporters, ensuring compliance with privacy and governance requirements. Monitor performance against income targets, donor pipelines, and engagement metrics. Produce regular reports and insights to inform decision-making, strategy refinement, and leadership reporting. Identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities within the philanthropy and legacy portfolio. 
  • Collaboration & Leadership
    Work collaboratively across Fundraising, Marketing, Programs, and Finance to deliver an integrated donor experience. Contribute to the development of fundraising strategy, planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. Build strong internal relationships to champion philanthropy and Gifts in Wills across the organisation. Represent the organisation professionally with donors, advisors, and external stakeholders. 

Essential Qualifications and Experience 

  • Demonstrated experience in philanthropy, major gifts, and Gifts in Wills fundraising. 
  • Strong relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills. 
  • Proven ability to manage donor pipelines and deliver income growth. 
  • Experience using CRM systems and data insights to inform fundraising strategy.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a proactive and organised approach.  
  • Passion for animal welfare and the mission of AWLQ.  
  • A valid driver's licence and the commitment to attend all sites regularly.
  • Approved Police and Vulnerable Persons Checks.
