About the role
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is seeking a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our Ipswich Animal Rehoming Centre in a permanent part-time role. This position offers a minimum of 3 shifts per week, with opportunities for additional shifts, including some weekend work.
Key Responsibilities

Consult Support: Support veterinarians with routine health examinations and medical cases

Foster Care Assistance: Assist veterinarians with foster carer consultations

Nursing Support: Assist in radiography, surgical procedures, monitor patient anaesthesia and post-operative procedures. In-house and external pathology procedures. Prepare medications as required

Inpatient Care: Nurse hospitalised animals, monitor clinical signs and communicate with the team

Communication: Liaise clearly and professionally with staff, volunteers, foster carers, and the community to ensure smooth operations and positive outcomes

Organisation Pro: Prepare and implement surgery and consult schedules

Patient files: Data entry of health, treatment and behaviour information

Processes: Compliance with AWLQ policy and procedure, in addition to compliance with state and federal legislation
- Equipment Maintenance: Scheduling and management of veterinary equipment
- Stock control and ordering supplies
What are the minimum requirements for this position?
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or recognised equivalent
- Ideally 3+ years' vet nursing experience
- Excellent animal handling skills, experience with anxious animals in the clinic environment
- Experience in a busy, fast-paced work environment
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience in a shelter/rescue environment will be highly regarded
