About the role
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a permanent Part-time Animal Care Attendant at Ipswich Rehoming Centre! AWLQ Animal Attendants play a huge part in making a genuine difference to the lives and welfare of our animals. This position offers a minimum of 3-4 shifts per week, with opportunities for additional shifts, including some weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure the welfare of animals in care, including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets, is to the highest standard
- Maintaining and cleaning of animal housing to a high standard
- Providing a high standard of animal care, including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments
- Providing positive-based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals
- Impounding and reuniting lost animals with owners
- Assisting customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions
- High-level accuracy and attention to detail when updating animal and person records using our digital system.
- Exceptional Customer Service to all visitors to the Rehoming Centre’s
What are the minimum requirements for this position?
- Certificate III in Animal studies, companion animals, Dog Training or behaviour qualification (desirable)
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with animal care in a professional environment
- Previous animal industry experience in a similar capacity with dogs and cats.
- National Police Clearance Certificate
- Experience using digital management software and inputting data
- Open driver’s license
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent Customer Service
- The ability to work in a team and independently
- Experience working with dogs, cats, and livestock.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability with animal quarantine and disease management
- Confident dog and cat handling skills, able to read body language and communicate animal behaviour
- Computer skills, able to use Microsoft Office, email, and data management systems
- Be able to work a 7-day roster – which covers weekends and public holidays, with a 5 pm finish on some shifts.
