The Opportunity

The Commercial Visual Merchandiser is a newly created role within our Commercial Operations team and offers an exciting opportunity to join AWLQ during a period of growth and transformation. Reporting to the Head of Commercial Operations, this role is central to elevating our visual presentation, enhancing customer experience and driving our commercial presence into the future!

 

You will be a hands-on, experienced visual merchandiser with a sharp eye for detail, leading the overhaul of our store presentation, setting the benchmark for our AWLQ op shops and other commercial operations in each location. Implementing your creative vision to provide brand consistency and awareness across all commercial touchpoints. Bring your knowledge and experience to develop our teams, coaching and guiding a mixed workforce Team of both paid employees and volunteers to give every customer an outstanding customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visual Merchandising Strategy
    Develop and implement a clear visual merchandising strategy and framework for AWLQ across all sites. Establish benchmarks, guidelines, and set the standards for store layout, category presentation, displays, fixtures and signage. Ensure merchandising standards are scalable, achievable & appropriate to a not-for-profit commercial environment. 
  • Store Presentation & Customer Experience
    Transform the overall look, feel & consistency at all stores to enhance customer engagement and drive revenue targets. Apply your visual merchandising principles to maximise space utilisation, product visibility, and sell-through. Support seasonal, promotional & campaign-based merchandising initiatives in line with commercial priorities. Ensure presentation reflects brand values while remaining practical. 
  • Team Training, Coaching, & Capability Building
    Support the team by designing & delivering practical visual merchandising training for both paid Team members and volunteers. Create simple, accessible training tools, guides and visual references to support consistent execution. Coach Teams in-store, providing hands-on guidance and constructive feedback. Lead by example to build confidence and capability within Teams to independently maintain merchandising standards. 
  • Monitoring, Review & Continuous Improvement
    Conduct regular reviews and monitoring across stores to ensure compliance with visual merchandising standards. Identify opportunities for improvement & provide clear, actionable recommendations. Track the impact of merchandising improvements on sales performance, stock movement and customer experience. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across commercial operations. 
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    Continuously review and refine merchandising standards to align with business redevelopment, evolving commercial goals, and report on findings. 
  • Collaboration & Integration
    Work closely with the Commercial Operations Team to align merchandising initiatives with operational efficiencies, revenue objectives, and target setting. Support stock control functions and effective stock flow.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience in visual merchandising and commercial presentation
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to develop and implement merchandising standards
  • Strong understanding of visual merchandising principles and customer behaviour
  • Experience in data analysis, producing performance reports, and sales
  • Demonstrated ability to train, develop, support, and inspire teams of paid employees and volunteer members
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently across multiple sites
  • Practical, solution-focused mindset suited to a resource-conscious environment
  • Experience working with volunteers in mixed workforce environments
  • Demonstrated ability in supporting store redevelopments, refits, or new concepts
  • Understanding of stock flow, inventory presentation and sell-through optimisation
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
  • A valid driver's licence and the commitment to attend all sites regularly
  • Approved Police and Vulnerable Persons Checks
