The Opportunity
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently seeking a passionate and reliable 12-month Fixed-term Part-time Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the Willawong Rehoming Centre.
This is a hands-on and rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about animal welfare and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Working alongside a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, you will play an important role in ensuring the highest standards of care for animals in our rehoming centre, including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets.
This position offers a minimum of 3-4 shifts per week, with opportunities for additional shifts, including weekend work. The successful candidate will have strong animal handling skills, excellent attention to detail, and a genuine passion for improving the lives of animals in need.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and clean animal housing to a high standard
- Provide high standards of animal care, including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments
- Deliver positive reinforcement-based enrichment and behaviour management programs
- Assist with impounding and reuniting lost animals with their owners
- Assist customers with pet meet-and-greets and adoptions
- Accurately update animal and customer records using digital management systems
- Provide exceptional customer service to all visitors to the Rehoming Centre
- Promote animal care products and food at the point of adoption
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III in Animal Studies, Companion Animals, Dog Training, Behaviour, or a related qualification (desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in animal care within a professional environment
- Previous animal industry experience in a similar role working with dogs and cats
- National Police Clearance Certificate
- Experience using digital management software and data entry systems
- Current open driver’s licence
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Experience working with dogs, cats, and livestock
- Knowledge of animal quarantine procedures and disease management practices
- Confident animal handling skills, including the ability to interpret animal body language and behaviour
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and digital management systems
- Ability to work across a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays
- Reliable transport
