Looking for a veterinary nursing role with more variety, purpose and opportunity to make a genuine difference
AWLQ is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our Gold Coast Community Veterinary Clinic.
Our clinics are high-volume, fast-paced and clinically varied. You will work across general practice, surgery, hospital care, urgent presentations and some critical care, with regular patient transfers between AWLQ clinics and external referral hospitals.
This role offers greater case variety and autonomy than many standard GP positions, with opportunities to use and strengthen your skills in:
- Triage, patient advocacy and treatment planning
- Surgery, anaesthetic monitoring and recovery
- Hospital and inpatient nursing
- Urgent and critical patient care
- Radiography, pathology and IV catheter placement
- Client education, emotional support and grief care
- Mentoring junior nurses and students
Your nursing skills can change more than a patient’s clinical outcome.
Many of our clients are experiencing financial hardship, distress or other barriers to accessing veterinary care. You will help provide practical, compassionate treatment options and support clients through some of their most difficult moments.
Your work may help keep a much-loved pet with their family, prevent surrender or avoid euthanasia where access to treatment is the primary barrier.
You will also work closely with AWLQ shelters, rehoming teams and other community services, contributing directly to our mission of improving animal welfare and keeping pets and people together.

The workload can be significant, cases can be complex and community veterinary care can carry a high emotional load.
This position will suit an experienced nurse who can remain calm under pressure, prioritise competing needs and bring compassion to both patient and client care.
The work can be demanding, but it is also varied, purposeful and deeply rewarding.
You will be part of a collaborative team where complex decisions are worked through together and asking for help is expected.
What you will bring
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or recognised equivalent
- At least three years’ veterinary nursing experience
- Confidence independently monitoring anaesthetics
- Ability to place IV catheters and perform general nursing duties
- Excellent animal handling, communication and client support skills
- Experience in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment
- Resilience, flexibility and strong attention to detail
Shelter or rescue experience is desirable, and Smartflow experience is highly regarded.
