The Opportunity
We're seeking a passionate Animal Care Attendant to join our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre on a part-time basis, playing a huge part in ensuring the welfare of our animals is maintained to the highest standard. If you're a confident animal handler who thrives on providing exceptional care to dogs, cats and small pets while delivering outstanding customer service, we'd love to talk to you. You'll be working under the banner of one of the most trusted names in animal welfare, alongside a dedicated team of employees and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a dedicated team of employees and volunteers to ensure the welfare of animals in care, including dogs, cats and small pets, is maintained to the highest standard.
- Maintain and clean animal housing to a high standard, including knowledge of animal quarantine and disease management practices.
- Provide a high standard of animal care, including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments.
- Deliver positive-based enrichment and behaviour management programmes for animals.
- Impound and reunite lost animals with their owners.
- Assist customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions, providing exceptional customer service to all visitors to the Rehoming Centre.
- Maintain high-level accuracy and attention to detail when updating animal and person records using our digital system.
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with animal care in a professional environment, including previous animal industry experience in a similar capacity with dogs and cats.
- Confident dog and cat handling skills, with the ability to read body language and communicate animal behaviour.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently.
- Computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, email and data management systems, with experience inputting data into digital management software.
- Availability to work a 7-day roster covering weekends and public holidays, with a 5 pm finish on some shifts.
- An open driver's licence and reliable transport.
- A National Police Clearance Certificate.
- Certificate III in Animal Studies, Companion Animals, Dog Training or a behaviour qualification (desirable).
