The Opportunity
We're seeking a compassionate and experienced Casual Veterinary Nurse to join our Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre, working closely with our veterinary team to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of animals through the clinic so they can move forward to their forever homes. You'll become part of a dedicated and caring professional team, united by a shared commitment to giving animals the best possible chance through veterinary treatment, fostering and adoption, with daily engagement across staff, departments and foster carers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians with routine health examinations, medical cases and foster carer consultations.
- Assist in radiography, surgical procedures, patient anaesthesia monitoring and post-operative care, as well as in-house procedures and medication preparation.
- Nurse hospitalised animals, monitoring clinical signs and communicating with the team.
- Liaise clearly and professionally with staff, volunteers, foster carers and the community to ensure smooth operations and positive outcomes.
- Prepare and implement surgery and consult schedules, and complete data entry of health, treatment and behaviour information in patient files.
- Ensure compliance with AWLQ policy and procedure, as well as state and federal legislation.
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or a recognised equivalent, ideally with 3+ years' vet nursing experience.
- Excellent animal handling skills, including experience with anxious animals in the clinic environment.
- Experience working in a busy, fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage your own time effectively and complete tasks thoroughly, with strong attention to detail and within deadlines.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, with strong teamwork and multitasking abilities.
- Good computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Versatility, flexibility and positivity.
- Previous experience in a shelter or rescue environment will be highly regarded.
