The Opportunity

Make a meaningful difference to animals and the community in this high-impact financial position within Queensland's best-loved charities. As the Finance Manager, you will lead the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting, month-end processes, year-end audit coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives across finance systems and processes. Bring your financial insights and analysis to support the CFO and Leadership Team in informed decision-making, financial sustainability, and strategic planning. Ensuring the smooth day-to-day management of the organisation's finance function through your robust internal controls and compliance expertise. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership: Provide effective leadership of the finance team to ensure a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team culture. Provide direction, coaching, and oversight to enable staff capability, service quality, and the effective delivery of financial outcomes.
  • Financial Management and Compliance: Ensure the organisation’s financial operations are managed effectively and in accordance with legislative, regulatory, audit and policy requirements. Maintain robust internal controls, financial processes and delegated authority frameworks to safeguard organisational assets and support financial integrity.
  • Month-End and Year-End Processes: Lead month-end and year-end finance processes to ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and finalised within required timeframes. Coordinate audit preparation, year-end workpapers, financial statement support, and associated reporting requirements in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reporting and Analytics:  Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, including, but not limited to, P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations, to support organisational performance monitoring and informed decision-making. Provide timely monthly management reporting, including variance analysis and financial commentary to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Work Health and Safety: Comply with regulations, identify and manage risks, and implement strategies to mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Workplace Agreements: Abide by all workplace agreements, organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Maintain knowledge of applicable requirements and comply with all reasonable management directions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Accountant or Finance Manager role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Sound understanding of accounting standards, taxation, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing month-end and year-end reporting.
  • Understanding of end-to-end payroll process including Awards, compliance obligations, and leave entitlements.
  • High-level analytical and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in Excel.

Desirable Criteria

  • Bachelor's qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience with grant acquittals, funding agreements, and program reporting.
  • Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems, NetSuite & MYOB.
