The Opportunity
As our Fundraising Specialist, you will be the welcoming voice of the Fundraising and Philanthropy Team at Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ). This diverse role spans multiple areas of our department, allowing you to seamlessly blend database administration, hands-on support, and heartfelt donor relations to directly change the lives of animals and the people who care for them every day.
Working within a dedicated fundraising team, you will act as the first point of contact for our passionate supporters, answering queries via phone, email, and mail with empathy, warmth, and professionalism. By making every interaction meaningful, you will nurture AWLQ's lifeblood and help turn everyday donors into lifelong champions for animal welfare.
This role is based in our office, with future consideration for working from home arrangements.
About You
You're a confident, curious, and outgoing relationship-builder who enjoys creating genuine connections with others. You're comfortable picking up the phone, starting conversations, speaking to groups and putting yourself out there to create meaningful experiences.
You don't need to have a decades-long career in fundraising to excel here. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, energy, and passion who is excited to learn, develop, and grow a meaningful career within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the Welcoming Voice: Act as the first point of contact for our community of animal lovers, answering donor queries across phone, email, and mail with empathy, warmth, and an absolute dedication to exceptional customer service.
- Master Donor Relations & Stewardship: Play a vital role in nurturing AWLQ's lifeblood by managing onboarding communications, supporting regular giving programs, and nurturing community fundraisers to turn everyday supporters into lifelong champions for animal welfare.
- Support the Legacy Portfolio: Provide administrative, receipting, and correspondence support for our Gift in Wills program, and assist with special events.
- Manage the Donation Tin Program: Coordinate the logistics, tracking, secure deployment, and collection of community donation tins.
- Empower Community Fundraisers: Act as the go-to guide and coach for passionate individuals and third-party groups, providing them with the resources, templates, and advice they need to fundraise safely and effectively.
- Grow Your Database & Admin Skills: Take ownership of data entry, receipting, and record maintenance, transforming data into clean, actionable insights that keep our fundraising engine running seamlessly.
- Collaborate & Storytell: Work dynamically across the entire Fundraising and Marketing teams, gaining hands-on exposure to diverse campaigns and initiatives in a highly supportive environment.
- See Your Tangible Impact Every Day: Enjoy a deeply rewarding role where your administrative excellence and relationship-building skills directly translate into giving animals a second chance at life.
To Be Successful, You Will Bring
- Experience in a relationship-focused role (fundraising, supporter care, customer service, community engagement, or events).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the emotional maturity to handle sensitive conversations (such as legacy and Gift in Wills inquiries).
- Confidence engaging with supporters, volunteers, and stakeholders, whether one-on-one or in front of a crowd.
- High-level attention to detail with experience using a CRM database and a knack for accurate data entry and financial processing.
- A proactive, creative approach and the ability to turn great ideas into action.
- A flexible attitude and a willingness to occasionally work outside standard business hours to represent AWLQ at community events.
