About Us

At Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ), our vision is for every companion animal to have a safe and caring environment where their needs are met. We are driven by a commitment to integrity, compassion, innovation, and optimism. As a leader in the animal welfare sector, we're dedicated to a brighter future for both animals and our community.

The Opportunity

The Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre is seeking a part-time Veterinarian to join our compassionate Veterinary team and contribute to our mission of providing essential care to animals in need. This opportunity presents exposure to a wide range of surgical treatments and medical interventions to help shelter animals reach their forever homes.

Make a difference to the thousands of stray and homeless animals every year by providing the care they need and finding new loving homes. AWLQ promises to never euthanise a healthy, sociable, or treatable animal in our care, which means we treat a wide variety of surgical and medical cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with a diverse caseload across surgical treatments and medical interventions, with case workups encouraged.
  • Provide veterinary care to help shelter animals reach their forever homes.
  • Collaborate with a friendly, dedicated team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
  • Work well across other departments, communicating effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Approach every case with kindness and compassion for the animals in our care.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Veterinary Science and Australian Registration.
  • 3+ years' veterinary experience.
  • Confidence in standard surgical procedures and medical cases.
  • An interest in shelter medicine.
  • Commitment to embracing a positive team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with other departments.
  • Kindness and compassion for the animals in our care.

We Offer

  • Work-life balance, with shift flexibility and flexible working hours.
  • A unique caseload with opportunities to expand your expertise.
  • Fast-tracked skill development with quality mentorship from experienced veterinarians, and a continuous education allowance on a pro-rata basis.
  • The chance to make a significant contribution to animal welfare, joining a team that cared for over 11,000 animals across four shelters last year.
  • Dedicated separate cat and dog clinics with iM3 dental machines, digital radiology, in-house pathology, and access to ultrasound and orthopaedic equipment.
  • Access to an independent Employee Assistance Program.
  • Retail and veterinary discounts.
