Veterinary medicine with purpose.

Looking for a veterinary role where your clinical skills can make a difference beyond the consult room?

Hobart Community Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Associate Veterinarian to join our team in Lenah Valley.

We provide accessible veterinary care to the community, helping animals receive treatment when financial or personal circumstances may otherwise make that difficult.

At the heart of our work is a simple goal: improving animal welfare while helping keep pets and people together.

This is more than routine GP.

Our hospital sees a diverse caseload across general practice, medicine, surgery and urgent presentations.

You’ll have the opportunity to work through interesting and sometimes complex cases, using your clinical judgement to balance the patient's needs with the individual circumstances of the person caring for them.

Your role will include:

  • Consulting, diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical cases
  • Routine and more involved surgical procedures
  • Developing practical treatment plans and advocating for your patients
  • Working closely with our experienced veterinary nurses and support team
  • Providing clear, compassionate client education and advice
  • Managing competing clinical priorities in a busy environment
  • Supporting continuity of care and referral where required

Our hospital is equipped with digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental X-ray and other modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.

Your veterinary skills can change more than a clinical outcome.

Community veterinary medicine is different.

Some of the people who come through our doors are experiencing financial hardship or difficult personal circumstances and may have limited options for their pet’s care.

That means the work can involve complex decisions and emotionally challenging conversations.

But it also means your work can have an extraordinary impact.

You may help a family access treatment they thought was out of reach, keep a much-loved pet at home, prevent an unnecessary surrender, or avoid euthanasia where access to veterinary care is the primary barrier.

The work can be challenging, but it is also varied, meaningful and deeply rewarding.

We’re looking for a veterinarian who…

  • Has a Veterinary Science qualification and current registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Tasmania
  • Brings at least 2 years’ experience in small animal practice
  • Is confident across medicine and surgery
  • Can remain calm and make sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicates with empathy, particularly when conversations are difficult
  • Is comfortable balancing competing patient and client needs
  • Values collaboration and team-based decision-making
  • Has a genuine interest in animal welfare and accessible veterinary care

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to practise good medicine while recognising that there isn’t always a textbook answer to every situation.

A team you can lean on

You’ll work alongside passionate veterinary professionals who understand the rewards and realities of community veterinary medicine.

We believe complex cases are best worked through together. Collaboration matters, communication matters, and asking for help is part of good clinical practice.

We want our people to continue learning, developing their skills and contributing their experience to the wider team.

Why Hobart Community Veterinary Hospital?

Along with meaningful clinical work, you’ll enjoy:

  • A varied and interesting caseload
  • The opportunity to practise purpose-led veterinary medicine
  • A supportive, collaborative veterinary and nursing team
  • Modern clinical equipment, including digital and dental X-ray and ultrasound
  • Monday-to-Friday hospital operations
  • No after-hours requirement – after-hours cases are referred to a nearby emergency clinic
  • Access to an independent Employee Assistance Program
  • Veterinary and retail discounts
  • A hospital only around 10 minutes from Hobart CBD, in beautiful Lenah Valley
